Huub den Rooijen awarded CBE
Huub den Rooijen, who retired as Managing Director of The Crown Estate’s marine portfolio in 2022, has been awarded an Honorary CBE for services to renewable energy and marine conservation.
Huub has dedicated much of his working life to the development of offshore wind energy. He has played a fundamental role in helping the UK become a world leading offshore wind market, whilst championing the need to balance demands on the marine environment. In the late 90s he was one of the founders of Shell’s wind energy business, responsible for the first offshore wind project in the UK at Blyth. Huub’s last ten years at The Crown Estate were spent enabling the expansion of the UK’s offshore wind fleet in support of the significant pipeline of projects we have today.
Huub holds non-executive roles at the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult and Celtic Sea Power, and at global organisations including the World Bank and Ocean Energy Pathway.
Commenting on the award, Dan Labbad, Chief Executive of The Crown Estate, said:
“Huub has been a passionate and committed advocated for the UK’s offshore wind sector since its early days as an emerging and novel technology. Throughout this time, he has consistently championed the importance of world-leading evidence and data, strong cross-sector partnerships, and international collaboration to attract investment, better protect the natural world and support the UK’s transition to a decarbonised and energy secure future.”
