Leisure sailing

We licence over 10,000 leisure moorings on the foreshore and seabed throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The majority of these moorings are within areas of seabed leased to local bodies, who in turn license individual moorings directly to boat owners. In these cases, The Crown Estate grants a block lease or licence to a mooring operator, such as a harbour authority, boat club or fairways committee. This operator provides local administration and sets fees for boat owners and may provide mooring tackle as well as other facilities.

We also own Burnham Yacht Harbour in Essex and have ground leases for a number of marinas across the country.

Along the River Hamble in Hampshire we own some 450 mid-stream piled moorings, which are individually licensed on our behalf by the River Hamble Harbour Authority.
