Future of offshore wind

We have published our thinking on the Future of Offshore Wind on behalf of the Great British Energy: The Crown Estate partnership. This report sets out how we can bring the next 20-30GW of offshore wind capacity to market by the end of this decade.

The Future of Offshore Wind report looks at prime areas of opportunity for new windfarms, as well as how we might evolve the way we lease the seabed to help speed up the deployment of offshore wind and how we can help reduce some of the risks developers might face. It poses a number of questions and discussion points that we are seeking views on from stakeholders and industry.

The Future of Offshore Wind report was published alongside outlining our vision to create a Marine Delivery Routemap. This includes exploring how the UK’s seabed can continue to support the accelerated delivery of nature recovery and the transition to clean energy, planning for all sectors and nature. You can find out more here.

Engagement

In sharing our assumptions at this early stage as part of our thinking on the Future of Offshore Wind leasing, we are presenting a vision of a more strategic approach to offshore wind development than ever before.

We look forward to working with all stakeholders to refine our approach and develop a world-class programme that creates lasting and shared prosperity for the nation.

Industry Roundtables

In November 2024, The Crown Estate, Renewable UK and the Offshore Wind Industry Council held two roundtables to discuss the Future of Offshore Wind (published 11/09/24). To ensure transparency and provide visibility of our engagement on this process, a summary of what was discussed at both roundtables is available to download in the links below.

If you are a developer or investor who was not present at the roundtables and would like to engage further on the discussion points outlined in Future of Offshore Wind, please contact us at: offshorewind@thecrownestate.co.uk.
